PROFILE:

Christy Dugger was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and became an American at the age of 19.   She, and her husband Larry, are world travelers and have lived in many different places.  The north coast of California was home to the couple and their children for 35 years.

In 2014, they retired to the home they designed and built near Agency Lake, Oregon, about 25 miles north of Klamath Falls.  It is happily known as the "Dugger Resort" by the kids and grandkids.

 

The couple stays involved globally through membership in The Planetary Society and as members of Couchsurfing International, Inc., traveling and hosting people from all over the world.

Christy and Larry are both avid birders and the ""Dugger Resort" is perfectly located in the middle of the Pacific Flyway.  Christy loves everything science fiction and is a lifelong fan of figure skating.  

 

EXPERIENCE:

Christy is an artist, scientist, draftsman, teacher, youth advocate and futurist!

With skills identified very young, Christy had her first one woman show in the fifth grade.  By 18, she became disillusioned and joined the idealist movement to”save the world” which led to a career in Environmental Planning and Design.

 

In the years that followed, art and science skills were used to develop parks, playgrounds, a zoo, private residences, a skatepark and several healthcare facilities, while drawing and sculpture became “just a pastime.” 

 

Teaching art and mentoring students to grow, cope with pressures of adolescence and find their suppressed creativity, was a rewarding experience for ten years.  During this period, her artwork was rarely exhibited (except to kids!).  Her highlight was an “Extreme Doodles” class which became a popular method for teaching systems thinking and may become a book someday.  

 

EDUCATION:

During high school, Christy enrolled in a fine arts program and received local and statewide awards including the four year Fine Arts Achievement Award.  At Victor Valley Junior College and Humboldt State University, she received several academic awards for artwork and environmental projects.

 

AWARDS:   Society of American Pen Women Award for Art;  President’s list for Academics;  Student Design Team Appointments to City of Arcata and County of Humboldt;  Dean’s List.
